The Italian Society of Accounting History (Società Italiana di Storia della Ragioneria – SISR) is pleased to announce the 17th edition of its biennial conference, in collaboration with the University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’. The conference, entitled “Merchants, Markets and Trade Networks: a Historical Perspective”, aims to continue the renowned tradition of promoting Italian accountancy historical research.
The conference will bring together scholars eager to explore , the multifaceted connections between merchants, markets, and trade networks from a historical perspective, highlighting the role of accounting in facilitating and documenting these interactions.
The organizing committee looks forward to receiving the submission of original papers that will contribute to the historical analyses of theories, practices and business cases, providing a deeper understanding of the trade fair phenomenon and markets in general, economic and trade networks, accounting practices, and the role of merchants, (drawing, as well, from past experiences prelude of new ideas). Contributions may be presented in either Italian or English.
Publication opportunities:
– Special Issue of the SISR Journal “Accounting and Business Culture. Accounting and Cultures” (for papers written in English).
Participants will have the opportunity to engage with influential Italian scholars and international guests whose contributions will offer multiple perspectives on the analysis of historical research, as well as ensuring the scientific continuity of historical studies through their own academic, scientific and cultural endeavors in the broadest sense.

The conference will be held on 5 and 6 December, 2024 at the University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’, Piazza Umberto I, Bari.

- From the State Highway 16bis: follow directions for the Bari Bypass (direction Brindisi) and then to the city center.
- From the north on the A14 highway : exit at Bari-Sud and follow the signs for the Bari Bypass (direction Brindisi) and then to the city center.
by Train to Bari Central Station:
The University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’ is located within walking distance of the Central Station (400 meters) located in Piazza Aldo Moro.

Registration fees
- Early bird registration fee by 15/10/2024: € 207,40

For PhD students in the 40th cycle, the early bird fee extends until 5 November 2024.
The congress registration fees include 22% Italian VAT.
